Our Loft Inspection and Fit Process
On arrival we first secure the loft hatch, then walk the joist bays to feel for cold spots and look for compressed or wet insulation. We measure the spacing, cut mineral wool or rigid board to length, lay it snugly between joists, staple the facing where required, tape all seams and seal around penetrations. Finally we check that soffit vents stay clear and note any thermal bridging.
What to Do Before We Arrive
- 1 Close the loft hatch securely and place a rolled towel along the frame to stop cold air entering the living space.
- 2 Turn off any extractor fans or vents that feed into the loft to prevent warm, moist air from escaping while you wait.
- 3 Leave a thermometer in the hallway near the hatch and record the temperature twice a day to spot any sudden drops.
- 4 Check the loft floor for visible gaps or missing insulation and note their location on a sketch of the loft layout.
- 5 Avoid storing items directly against the hatch area so you can keep the space clear for our survey team when they arrive.
